If you have ever lost your phone and all important documents on it with no hope for retrieval, or sat in an important business meeting only to misplace your notes sometime later, or you have had to spend hours of your precious time just updating your many social media profiles, you understand how utterly frustrating such things can be. Being an entrepreneur is fulfilling yet the work is serious; any tool that makes things easier usually comes as huge relief. Thanks to technology, those tools are available and totally free. In this article, I will share with you 5 very important apps you should have as an entrepreneur – No, not Candy Crush Saga 🙂

I have selected the free apps because I know some of them have as much functionality as the premium apps, sometimes even more. From backing up your important files on the cloud – so you don’t ever have to lose them – to managing your many social media accounts easier and faster, believe me when I say these apps will make life easier as an entrepreneur. Some apps come pre-installed with most mobile devices so I don’t include them. Here goes…

Top 5 Free Apps Every Entrepreneur Should Have

1. Dropbox

Dropbox is an awesome application for sharing your files with all your computers and devices. If having access to your most important files is critical to you, even when you are on the go, Dropbox is your answer. The disadvantage with backing up your files on a flash drive or external HDD is that you have to carry them wherever you go to reach your files. With Dropbox, you simply backup your files on the internet (the cloud). This means your files are readily accessible from anywhere on the planet. Not only can it sync documents between all your computers whether they be Windows, Mac, or Linux, it also allows you access using your iPhone, iPod Touch, or Android phone. You can very easily share any of your Dropbox documents by email, Twitter, Facebook, or IM using the installed apps on your phone. Howtogeek.com has an article on how to install and use Dropbox on your device.

2. ColorNotes

Actually, and in my opinion, Evernote is the best app for taking and organizing notes. However, Evernote is a premium app. It has a free account but some of the nice features and perks are restricted. The next best thing is ColorNotes and it is completely free. ColorNotes is a simple note taking application that allows you to create text notes, lists, and more. Its namesake feature is the ability to change the background color of notes to help you stay organized. Some other features include calendar support, backup support to both internal and cloud storage, some task reminder features, and more. ColorNote also has to-do list features as well. 3. TED

TED is my favorite app for inspiration, information and motivation. TED stands for technology, entertainment and design. They have a collection of more than 1500 educational talks and videos on almost every subject. Notable people from all over the world speak on TED stage including our own Chimamanda Adichie (watch her TED talk on The Danger of a Single Story). TED is one of the best sources to find inspirational and motivating talks by thought leaders who changed the world with their ideas. Using the Android app, you can watch TED videos on Android or download each TED video for offline viewing – absolutely no strings attached

4. Hootsuite

Social media is a formidable tool for business branding, website traffic and general publicity. Managing all your social media accounts and posting on all of them at different times could be time-consuming. This is why you need Hootsuite. With Hootsuite, you can manage and schedule posts to multiple social media profiles on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and more, all from one app. The app is free for up to 3 accounts which is perfect for most people. It is the top app for Android to help you manage social media and track social media analytics. You can download either the android or IOS version from their website or your app store.

5. Linkedin

How Solid is your network? LikedIn is a social network for professionals. If building a professional network is important to you – it should be – LinkedIn is a must-have. The app makes it very easy to connect and interact on the go. With Linkedin, opportunity is only a click away. You can update your résumé, get information on what is happening in your professional world and keep in touch with your network. Download LinkedIn from your app store or their website.
