update (Jan, 2017): Applications for n-power has closed. Thank you.
The federal Government of Nigeria, in keeping with its campaign promise of youth empowerment and graduate employment, has launched its first initiative towards the creation of jobs for unemployed graduates and provision of skills acquisition training for non-graduates in one of these 8 focus areas of national economic development and growth: Agriculture, Community Service, Teaching, Vocational Services, Technology, Health, Post Production and Animation. This initiative is known as the N-POWER initiative. This article tells you in simple terms, everything you need to know about this program – if it is for you and how you can apply for it.
1. What is N-POWER?
N-POWER is a federal government initiative aimed at addressing the problem of graduate unemployment and skills acquisition among the youths. Think of it as SURE-P on steroids! Under this program, 500,000 graduates will be deployed to different sectors of the economy for 2 years in paid employment and 100 non-graduates will receive skill acquisition training in the following areas: Hardware Maintenance and Servicing, Software Development, Graphics Design and Animation, Building Services among others.
This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to get some basic important skills in the emerging and booming sectors of both local and international markets. Getting these skills elsewhere could cost you an arm and leg. It’s here on a platter and it’s important that you seize this opportunity.
2. When and how to apply
Registration commences on the 11th of June, 2016. To apply, logon to the N-POWER official website, select your desired category at the top right corner of the screen and click on the APPLY NOW button. The program is scheduled to kick off on the 1st of august, 2016.
